The Russian Federation has abstained from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as it adopted the resolution brokered by the United States President to find a lasting solution to the conflict in Gaza.
The Council on Monday adopted the motion as they push for an immediate ceasefire in occupied Gaza.
14 members of the UNSC all voted in favor of the resolution with only Russia abstaining from adopting the proposal.
In the ceasefire proposal, President Biden outlined a three-phase ceasefire plan which has been agreed to by Israel with Hamas expressing skepticism on the proposal.
The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield urged the council to compel Hamas to accept the deal and end the unjust suffering of innocent civilians.
Hamas described the proposal as one-sided favoring Israel more than the Palestinians, showcasing their unwillingness to accept the peace deal.
The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is also in the Middle East to induce leaders of the region to urge Hamas to accept the ceasefire proposal.
