Marine Le Pen’s National Rally has dealt a huge blow to the ruling party headed by President Macron in Sunday’s EU elections.
The National Rally secured a total number of 32% of the vote, outshining President Macron’s pro-European centrist and socialist join together.
Le Pen party gathered an increase of 10 points against the total votes secured from the last EU election in 2019.
Le Pen and her popular lead candidate, 28-year-old Jordan Bardella, framed the EU election as a mid-term referendum on Macron’s presidency, tapping into widespread discontent over issues such as immigration, crime, and a two-year inflation crisis.
This decisive win for the National Rally will set the stage for the 2027 presidential race as Le Pen is tipped to be the frontrunner following her electoral victory at the EU election.
Le Pen’s National Rally gathered a total number of 31 seats, compared to 14 seats for Macron’s Renaissance and 13 seats for the Socialists.
