The organized labor, represented by both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), criticized the 36 governors for claiming they couldn’t manage an N60,000 minimum wage.
The labor leaders condemned the governors’ stance as cruel and urged them to reconsider before facing potential consequences.
Reports surfaced indicating that the governors, represented by Hajiya Halimah Salihu Ahmed, the Director of Media and Public Affairs of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), announced on Friday their inability to meet the proposed N60,000 minimum wage set by the federal government.
Head of Information and Public Affairs at the NLC headquarters, Benson Upah, reacted to the governors’ decision, wondering why they overlooked the significant rise in the prices of fuel, the dollar against the Naira, and other factors.
The Labor Unions addressed the governors’ claim, asserting that it was far from accurate. They highlighted that FAAC allocations had increased from “N700 billion to N1.2 trillion,” enriching the governments significantly at the expense of the people.
