A Centenarian and WWII Navy veteran Robert Persichitti en route to the 80th anniversary of the D-Day celebration in France.
Robert fell ill in Germany last week during his visit and was pronounced dead at a hospital as the sickness gripped him, this was announced by his close friend Rev. William Leone.
Robert is among the living veterans of the devastating WWII until his death, with a report indicating he died at the age of 102.
Robert was enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1942, before getting assigned as a radioman to the USS Eldorado and in 1944 sailed to the Pacific where he participated in the attacks against Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
He was described as a longtime friend of the D-Day celebration by those close to him and the National WWII Museum in New Orleans recognized his appearance at the museum over time.
Robert died on May 30 while a doctor was attending to him.
