According to various media reports, Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted on Thursday that Israel’s conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip constituted genocide.
Putin claimed, “The events unfolding in Gaza following the terrorist attack on Israel don’t resemble a war; they resemble the complete annihilation of the civilian population.”
The relationship between Russia and Israel recently has been a mix of cooperation and tension. On one hand, they’ve engaged in limited military cooperation, diplomatic exchanges, and economic ties.
However, disagreements arise due to Russia’s support for regimes like Syria and Iran, which Israel sees as threats.
Despite these challenges, both countries maintain diplomatic relations and occasional cooperation efforts, while also navigating their differing regional interests and priorities.
