Organized Labour Unions and the Federal Government will resume negotiations at 1 pm today after a series of meetings without reaching an agreement.
A reliable source familiar with the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the organized labor, which includes the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), mentioned that the ongoing strike was “eased” as per the agreement reached with the government on Monday night.
The source clarified that during the meeting with the Federal Government convened by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, it was agreed that the Tripartite Committee on the new minimum wage would convene daily to finalize negotiations.
The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has announced its readiness to increase the minimum wage beyond N60,000 and is encouraging organized labor to accept the proposal.
The FGN revealed the figure on Monday evening following discussions with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Signing the statement on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria were Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment.
