The United Nations experts, on Monday, called for all countries to recognize a Palestinian state to ensure peace in the Middle East.
The request came after Spain, Ireland, and Norway officially recognized Palestine less than a week ago, triggering Israel’s ire. The nation finds itself increasingly isolated, particularly amid nearly eight months of conflict in Gaza.
UN Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, along with other experts, underscored that recognizing a Palestinian state is a vital acknowledgment of the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people for freedom and independence.
Spain, Ireland, and Norway, by recognizing a Palestinian state, expressed their intention to expedite efforts to secure a ceasefire in Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
The three countries hope their decision will encourage other European Union states to follow suit. However, Denmark’s parliament later rejected a proposal to recognize a Palestinian state.
