Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members will join the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
However, the Congress of University Academics (CONUA), another academic staff union in the university system, has not yet announced its stance on the issue.
During conversations with Newsmen on Sunday evening, the National Presidents of the unions, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke of ASUU, and Dr. Niyi Sunmonu of CONUA, clarified their stances.
Osodeke affirmed, “ASUU is affiliated with NLC, therefore ASUU will engage in any NLC action.”
Sunmonu, on his part, remarked, “We are monitoring the situation closely, and I have convened an emergency meeting of the congress for later this evening. There, we will assess the situation and determine our next steps.”
Additionally, speaking during a discussion, Prof. Kayode Adebayo, the Chairman of ASUU at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), clarified that both the NLC and the government have until midnight on Sunday to resolve the matter.
