The Secretary-General of the ANC, Fikile Mbalula, stated during a press conference on Sunday that millions of South Africans who voted for the ANC have seen the effects of the party’s work.
He highlighted the efforts made to end load shedding, revive the infrastructure program, provide social protection to the poor and unemployed, offer work opportunities and experience to young people, and hold those responsible for corruption to account.
The African National Congress (ANC) got 42.7% of the votes in Wednesday’s election, according to the latest update from the electoral commission.
Former President Jacob Zuma’s supported uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party grabbed 10%, moving ahead of the radical left Economic Freedom Fighters to become the third largest party, while the pro-business Democratic Alliance came in second with 23.6%.
The Democratic Alliance, South Africa’s primary opposition, maintained its majority in the Western Cape province, a stronghold it has governed since 2009.
