Former U.S. President Barack Obama has declared support for a peace deal between Hamas and Israel as proposed by President Biden on Friday.
Obama speaking on the proposed deal described it as a realistic proposal that will save lives and ensure proper security for both Israel and the people of Palestine in Gaza.
Additionally, it would also ensure the return of hostages back to their families while facilitating the entrance of aid into Gaza for the Palestinians in dire need since October 7.
Biden on Friday proposed a three-phase deal as issued by Israel, with the first phase focusing on de-escalation of the conflict for six weeks which includes the withdrawal of Israel from occupied Gaza.
The exchange of hostages is also included while the remaining dead would be returned to their families. The success of the first phase would usher in the second phase which is aimed at ending the conflict entirely.
Obama identified the ceasefire as the final pact that could end the bloodshed, and reunite families that have been shattered by the war while facilitating humanitarian aid into Gaza to alleviate the worsening condition of the people of Palestine.
He also said the deal would bring about a secure and safer for Israel while also ensuring for the Palestinians the security, freedom, and self-determination they have sought for so long.
The proposal has been shared with the Hamas resistance group through Qatar with President Biden urging Israel leaders to accept the peace deal while also calling for international pressure on Hamas to agree with the proposal.
