The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Yakubu Maiyaku has expressed dissatisfaction over the legal discrepancies surrounding the Emir of Kano tussle between Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero.
The NBA president complained over the role played by lawyers and the courts over different rulings regarding the legality of the seat of the crown between the presumed Emirs.
Following the dethronement of Aminu Ado Bayero on Thursday, there has been an injection by the Federal High Court in Kano nullifying Sanusi’s reappointment and affirming the legitimacy of Aminu Ado Bayero.
On the other hand, the Kano State High Court has ruled against the Federal Court injunction as it affirmed the legitimacy of Sanusi Lamido to the throne, calling for respect of law by the enforcement.
The political brouhaha has led to outbursts among the judiciary branch, with the NBA president expressing disappointment over the conduct of both counsel and judges involved in the cases.
He called for a review of the professional conduct of the lawyers and judges involved in the controversial judgments as he called for an investigation of the conduct of the judges and reported their findings to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for necessary action.
The judicial impasse has caught the attention of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Ariwoola who is poised to meet with the judges and counsel involved in the case.
