Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz has also followed in the footsteps of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron as both leaders called for the rearrangement of the current situation regarding the usage of Western weapons by Ukraine in striking targets in Russia.
Scholz reaffirms his backing for Ukraine following a meeting with Emmanuel Macron before the start of a Franco-German Council of Ministers in Meseberg.
The German leader said Ukraine should be allowed to use western weapons in striking targets in Russia as proposed by Macron who said limiting Ukraine attacks while supplying weapons won’t be favorable to Ukraine.
Scholz during the conference said, “The United States, Germany, and France have all developed regulations that state that the use of Western weapons must always be within the framework of international law. This has worked well in practice so far and will certainly continue to do so.”
He gave Ukraine the go-ahead in using German weapons to hit targets in Russia saying they’re in solidarity with the Ukrainian course.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has cautioned Western countries supplying weapons to Ukraine against using them to target Russia saying it would lead to global conflict if foreign weapons were found on Russian soil.
