The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has launched an Investigation into the aerial airstrikes on Rafah that led to the death of 45 innocent civilians with dozens reported injured on Sunday.
According to the IDF, it disclosed that steps were taken to prevent civilian casualties as they targeted two Hamas officials in Rafah.
The Investigation will be undertaken by the top-tier General Staff Fact-Finding Assessment Mechanism as disclosed by the IDF on Monday afternoon decrying the tragic incident.
The mechanism put in place is an independent organ of the military body responsible for investigating unusual incidents amid the war.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also described the incident as a tragic mistake as no harm was aimed at the civilians who were in a safe zone in the area.
According to the IDF, it said intelligence information was undertaken in the area before embarking on any airstrikes and they had carried out many steps to reduce civilian casualties which included aerial surveillance, the use of precision munitions, and additional intelligence information.
