Russia has announced its intention to expand its booming territory and might on water as it seeks to acquire new terrain on the sea, with the Baltic Sea as the Moscow target.
According to a report from the Moscow Times, the Russian Defense Ministry has identified the Baltic Sea as another territory to be annexed on Sea, with NATO member-states Finland and Lithuania to be affected by this new acquisition.
This announcement from Russia is seen as a direct affront to NATO who have a sacred obligation to its member-states which is documented in Article 5 of the NATO charter, with both engaging in indirect confrontation in Ukraine currently.
In a document from the Russian War Ministry, Russia aims to declare an area in the Gulf of Finland and water areas near the cities of Baltiysk and Zelensogradsk as inland waters as both cities are located in the Russian-controlled Kaliningrad.
The Kremlin government has decided to go ahead with the annexation of the Sea territory justificating their stand based on the defunct Soviet Union territory.
The announcement has sparked global attention, with many alluding to President’s Putin invasion of Ukraine as a way of acquiring back the defunct Soviet Union for Russia, and further provocation of NATO’s members could lead to an escalation in global conflict, with a high tendency of World War III drawing nearer.
