A funeral procession for Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian will be held in the north-western city of Tabriz on Tuesday, local media reported. This follows their tragic deaths in a helicopter crash on Sunday, as confirmed by Anadolu Agency.
The state news agency IRNA announced that President Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and other top officials who perished in the crash will be laid to rest in Qom, a central city in Iran known for its religious significance.
After an extensive overnight search operation, hindered by severe weather conditions, rescue teams discovered the wreckage on Monday morning. The accident occurred in the mountainous region of East Azerbaijan province, and the search efforts involved dozens of emergency rescue teams.
The deaths of Raisi, Amir-Abdollahian, and other senior officials have sent shockwaves through the nation. The Iranian Constitution stipulates that First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will assume the powers of the presidency. In line with constitutional requirements, presidential elections will be held within 50 days to elect a new leader.
