In a Thursday night attack, bandits stormed the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC) in Osara, Okene, Kogi State, and abducted several students. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants struck around 9:00 PM while students were preparing for their upcoming exams.
According to accounts from the scene, the bandits entered the university premises through the bush and infiltrated three lecture halls. Inside these halls, they began firing shots into the air, creating panic among the students. The attackers trapped the students, who were reading for their first-semester examinations scheduled to commence on Monday, May 13.
Local security guards and conventional security personnel stationed at the university gate responded swiftly, engaging the bandits. Although their efforts minimized the damage, some students were still abducted. Fortunately, the attackers did not proceed beyond the first three halls.
A student, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that he and his colleagues sought refuge in the nearby bush for over an hour. Only when the area fell silent did they venture out.
CUSTEC Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulraman Asipita, confirmed the incident but declined to provide details regarding the number of students abducted. He assured the public that the university administration was actively addressing the situation.
