The UK Minister for Business and Trade, Kemi Badenoch, landed in Nigeria this Sunday for a three-day visit. She will continue the efforts of both nations to enhance the UK-Nigeria trade ties and open up new investment possibilities.
Badenoch’s visit follows the visit of the former Foreign Secretary to Nigeria in August 2023 and the UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Talks last week. This was revealed in a statement by Ndidiamaka Eze, the Senior Press and Public Affairs Officer, Communications Lead, Prosperity and Economic Development of the British High Commission in Abuja.
The statement also said that Badenoch and Helen Grant, the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, will have meetings with Federal Government officials, state governors, and British and Nigerian business leaders and investors.
In these meetings, she will examine the current and potential investment and trade activities, from education to infrastructure and energy projects, that can create thousands of jobs.
Badenoch will also seek to further consolidate the UK-Nigeria partnership, eliminate obstacles to trade and investment, increase business between the two countries, and make the City of London more available to Nigeria for international business.
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, commented on her visit and engagement in Nigeria. He said that Nigeria is one of the UK’s most vital partners in Africa.
We are dedicated to helping Nigeria unlock new investment opportunities, supporting more UK and international investment through the City of London, and thus creating jobs in both our countries. He said.
He also said that the recent bold and big reforms by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Central Bank are increasing the confidence of international investors that the country is on the right track and are setting the stage for growth.”
