A representative from Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the National Assembly, Leke Abejide, has called on all Nigerians, regardless of their political or religious beliefs, to give President Bola Tinubu’s administration a chance to implement its policies for at least two years. Abejide made this call on Saturday during a grand reception hosted by the Yoruba community in Kano State in his honour.
The ceremony also featured the conferral of the title of Asiwaju of Yoruba Kano by the Yoruba king of Kano, Dr. Murtala Otisese. Abejide stated that he is confident that Tinubu’s administration will improve the economy. He compared the current situation to “a woman in labour”, noting that while the process may be painful, the rewards will be worth it in the end.
Abejide, who also serves as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Customs and Excise Committee, advised people to remain patient, assuring them that the outcome will be beneficial to everyone. The Asiwaju Yoruba Kano promised the 4.5 million Yorubas in Kano that he would complete the construction of the Oba Yoruba of Kano’s palace.
During the event, the Oba Yoruba of Kano, Dr. Alimi Otisese, praised Abejide for his contributions to the Yoruba community in Kano, particularly through the empowerment of widows and orphans. This, he said, was one of the reasons why he conferred the title of Asiwaju Yoruba Kano on Abejide.
In a speech on behalf of the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, his Special Adviser on Yoruba Affairs, Alhaji Abdussalam Abdullatif, stated that the current administration in the state would continue to run an all-inclusive government, delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
