There is good news for Super Eagles fans, as goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been cleared to play in the AFCON quarter-final match against Angola.
Nwabali was injured in Nigeria’s win over Cameroon in the Round of 16, raising doubts over his availability for the showdown against Angola but has since recovered.
While speaking at the pre-match conference, coach Peseiro said that Nwabali would need a late fitness test to determine his availability for the game. However, hours before the match, the Super Eagles Media Officer, Babafemi Raji, said that Nwabali had recovered and would be available to play.
Raji said, ‘He trained the day before yesterday and also trained yesterday, but the training yesterday was much more intense.’ Raji confirmed that Nwabali is available for selection for the match, despite the earlier uncertainty over his fitness.
According to Raji, Nwabali has trained with the team and is in good condition to play. He also emphasized that the coach is the one who decides who starts the match, but that Nwabali is ready to play. The players are ready and motivated for the game, but they are not underestimating their opponents.”
