The purge initiated by Nicaraguan Vice President Rosario Murillo in the country’s judiciary has resulted in over 900 dismissals within fifteen days.
The dismissals include Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) magistrates, Appeals magistrates, directors, judges, secretaries, and administrative personnel at both central and local levels.
Approximately 10% of the judiciary’s 9,000 employees have lost their jobs without receiving dismissal letters, severance pay, or addressing labor and pension fund obligations.
The purge began on October 24 with the removal of CSJ President Alba Luz Ramos by retired general commissioner Horacio Rocha through a police coup.
