Brazil’s president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, accuses Israel of indiscriminate killings in Gaza, likening their actions to the October 7 attacks by Hamas.
Lula claims Israel targets innocent civilians, including children and hospitals. Representatives of Brazil’s Jewish community criticize the remarks, asserting they unfairly equate Israel with Hamas.
“After the act of terrorism provoked by Hamas, the consequences, the solution of the state of Israel, is as grave as that of Hamas. They are killing innocent people without any criteria,” Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Monday.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, according to Hamas-run Gazan Health Ministry figures, has resulted in 11,078 casualties, predominantly civilians. Israel revised the death toll of the October 7 attacks by Hamas to about 1,200 people from over 1,400.
