Teachers in England, represented by the National Education Union (NEU), have accepted the government’s pay proposal and canceled the planned strikes during the autumn term.
The NEU, the UK’s largest teaching union, revealed that 86% of its members voted in favor of the 6.5% pay increase.
Although the union acknowledges this progress, they remain firm in their commitment to campaign for further increases in teacher pay and improved funding for schools and colleges.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called for an end to industrial actions, stating that the deal is fair for workers and taxpayers alike, with various public sectors, including police officers, teachers, and NHS staff, receiving pay increases.
