President Muhammad Buhari urged the Nigerian navy to ensure that the combat display of its warships is translated into the actual defense of the country’s territorial waters yesterday.
Lagos is also considered to be the nation’s lifeline, according to him. During the 2023 presidential fleet review, the president made the call based on the Nigerian navy’s “fleet preparedness for national prosperity.”
He said, however, that the navy had put all the 20 vessels learned into use, as shown by the successes in the fight against resource theft, counter-drug operations, and piracy.
Piracy has declined dramatically in the last seven years, culminating in the international maritime bureau’s delisting of Nigeria from the list of piracy-prone countries in March 2022.
