Hundreds of retired police officers from Nigeria (repon) staged a nonviolent rally in Bauchi yesterday, demanding that they be removed from the contributory pension scheme (cps).
Protesters stormed the Bauchi state police command headquarters, clutching leaves and placards with inscriptions such as, “Pencom is more than coronavirus,” “fgn we are tired of cps,” and “NPF pension where are our benefits.”
They also requested that the federal government and the inspector general of police (igp), alkali baba, urgently return them to the Nigeria police force pension contributory scheme.
Superintendent Eliya John (rtd), their spokesman, told Aminu al-Hassan, the state commissioner of police, that many of their members died as a result of frustration with their pension administrators.
