On Saturday, registration centers for the upcoming local and legislative elections in Togo opened their doors to the public. Within a matter of hours, lengthy queues had already begun to form as eager citizens lined up in hopes of securing their right to vote.
Although some individuals were able to complete the registration process, others faced unfortunate setbacks.
Some were informed that all available registration forms had been depleted, while others were told that the computer systems were experiencing technical difficulties.
Evariste Toganou, a supermarket worker, seemed impatient. “under the strain, I will take my voter’s card.
“I’m going to vote this time because I’m going to vote.” Toganou refused to vote in 2018 as a result of the overwhelming opposition parties’ calls for people to boycott the legislative elections.
But this time, they’ve been encouraging their supporters to come out in droves.
However, it is uncertain if anyone who wishes to vote will be able to register, as election officials admit they are having a difficult time.
