According to recent court documents, Fox News on-air personality Tucker Carlson declared in a text message that he “passionately despised” the former US president, Donald Trump after the 2020 election.
In January 2021, Mr. Carlson sent a message to a coworker that later surfaced as evidence in a defamation case filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News.
The electronic voting company alleges that the network is spreading unfounded allegations of election fraud.
Fox News claims that on-air comments were taken out of context and denies any defamation.
According to the most recent court documents in the case, Mr. Carlson voiced his displeasure with the departing US president two days before Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol to prevent lawmakers from recognizing Joe Biden’s victory.
In a text message made on January 4, 2021, he stated, “We are very, very near to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I am really eager to wait.
I vehemently despise him, he continued.
Although praising Trump’s accomplishments on broadcast, Mr. Carlson, the most popular host on the conservative network, also seemed to criticize the Trump administration in these private letters.
